About Hypnotherapy

An overview of solution focused hypnotherapy

About Me

Hello! My name is Maureen. I'm originally from the United States but now based in Brighton, UK.

I have worked for nearly 20 years as a hairdresser, speaking and listening to a wide variety of people and being an unofficial “therapist” for many. This has spurred me on to actually make the move into therapy so I can make more of a difference to helping people feel better in themselves using proven methods.

I trained at CPHT Brighton, I am a member of AfSFH, The Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapists, a member of NCH, The National Council for Hypnotherapy and I hold a DBS.
I am also a qualified EFT and TFTpractioner. I offer an inclusive LGBTQ+ friendly service.

Solution focused hypnotherapy

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a modern, safe and well-researched form of hypnotherapy that is based on the idea that people have it within themselves to make positive changes in their lives if they are given the right knowledge and support. It is a very effective form of therapy that helps many people overcome a wide variety of problems and issues. The focus is on what someone wants to achieve rather than the problems that prompt them to seek change.

The process can take anywhere from six to twelve sessions (sometimes longer when working on multiple issues) depending on the severity of the problem and how motivated the client is to overcome it.

What to expect

When you meet with me, we will have a consultation where we can discuss what you would like to get out of the therapy, what your goals are and an explanation of how our brains work in relation to your issues. The following sessions will involve solution focused discussions tapping into your inner capabilities and resources followed by deeply relaxing trance which is a pleasant way to allow your mind to focus on your positive goals.

Solution focused Hypnotherapy is based on modern neuroscience and uses aspects of mindfulness, CBT, and NLP to provide a practical and effective form of solution orientated therapy.

About phobias

A phobia is an overwhelming & debilitating fear of an object, place, situation, feeling, or animal.
It is an exaggerated or unrealistic sense of danger about a situation or object and a phobia can affect people regardless of age or social background A phobia may disrupt daily life and limit ones enjoyment of life experiences.

Phobias can be treated without exposure therapy. They can be successfully treated with hypnotherapy.
Hypnotherapy allows someone to confront their fears in a relaxed, safe, and comfortable space using controlled imagined exposure, helping the person to desensitize from the fear and replacing the fight or flight response with a calm and controlled reaction.

A phobia is a learnt behaviour that can be unlearned.
Phobias can be specific, non-specific, or social.
Specific phobias affect about 6-8% of the western world, and 2-4% in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

SPECIFIC- Most common and focus on a specific object (spiders, bees, slugs, buttons, etc)
NON-SPECIFIC- Common but harder to specify fears such as open spaces, small spaces, heights, sickness, etc. (Agrophobia, claustrophobia, acrophobia, emetophobia, etc.)
SOCIAL- Fear or rejection, judgement, and extreme anxiety in social or public situations.

These fears are learnt behaviours meaning they can be unlearned!
